One of our trustees recently visited an initiative called Hands and Hearts Skills Development Centre, which focusses on teenage boys who are out of school and unemployed. The boys are taught practical skills such as metalwork, plumbing and carpentry. They also have maths lessons and advice on managing finances. At the end of the year long course every student leaves with a toolbox fully equipped with tools and the skills to use them, enabling them to seek work in the local community.
Many of these teenagers come from disadvantaged backgrounds and come in in the morning without having had breakfast. The GRCT helps to fund their e’Pap breakfast. Having e’Pap for breakfast means that they are better able to concentrate on their work during the day.
